Planting Seeds at the Oasis: Potomac's Work with At-Risk Youth

At Potomac Church, we believe in being active members of our local community and supporting organizations that enrich the lives of young people. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Oasis Reserve, a non-profit providing transformative camping experiences and programming for at-risk youth. Many of the kids who attend their camps come from disadvantaged backgrounds and lack access to proper outdoor clothing and gear. That’s where our clothing drive comes in!  From now until the end of July, Potomac Church will collect new and gently used shorts, t-shirts, socks, and lightweight jackets to help ensure every camper has the appropriate attire to participate in Oasis Reserve’s activities fully.

By providing clothing to the Oasis Reserve campers, our church is helping to remove a potential barrier to their participation and growth.  When kids feel properly outfitted and prepared, they can focus fully on embracing new challenges, exploring nature, and bonding with their peers without self-consciousness about their clothing.  Our partnership is about more than just donating clothing. It’s about investing in the future of our community’s young people and supporting an organization doing vital work.  The Oasis Reserve’s camp teaches critical life skills like teamwork, resilience, and environmental stewardship in an immersive outdoor setting. For the at-risk youth they serve, these camps can be a lifeline- providing a safe, nurturing environment and positive mentors during a vulnerable time.  By ensuring the Oasis Reserve has the resources to run high-quality programming, we’re helping to set kids up for success and brighter futures.

We have another opportunity to strengthen community connections.  Partnering with organizations like the Oasis Reserve allows us to live out our values of service, compassion, and investing in future generations.  We encourage everyone in a position to donate shorts, t-shirts, or other summer clothing or personal hygiene items soap, toothpaste, deordorant, to take part in this drive over the next few months.  Together, we can ensure that every Oasis Reserve camper has what they need to embrace new adventures, discover their potential, and create joyful outdoor memories this summer.
